Overwhelming Fire is back in World of Tanks

Wargaming brought back their Automatic Cannon mode, Overwhelming Fire, this month and I've just got finished progressing through the 2nd time it was available. It was available for a total of 6 days this month, August 9th - August 11th and then August 16th - August 18th.

I've wrote about Overwhelming Fire previously when it was playable and you can read that here:

My thoughts on Overwhelming Fire in World of Tanks
Wargaming added a new temporary mode to World of Tanks recently called “Overwhelming Fire” which added automatic cannons to the game. I spent some time this bank holiday weekend playing it, here’s what I thought! 💡Sidenote, the mode has now been removed from the game. The last chance to play

So what was different this time round? Well, a couple of things!

Of course the mode has it's own progression system, which you can progress in by playing matches and completing missions. There's 6 stages in total and each stage requires 25 points to progress to the next stage. Whilst you're progressing, you can unlock credits, personal reserves, premium days, components, free XP and Battle Pass points and bonds. In fact, one run of the progression system will give you enough Battle Pass points to be able to climb an entire tier, so thanks to Overwhelming Fire, I was able to go up 2 whole tiers. Once you've finished the main progression, there's also an unlimited post progression stage, allowing you to keep playing and gaining rewards.

They've also added a Post Battle screen, which shows how well you did in the match by letting you know how much damage you did, how many tanks you destroyed, how much damage you assisted in and how much damage you blocked:

You have the choice of playing 8 different tanks, all Tier 10, but ranging from Arty to Light. All of my games were actually in mid-tier tanks:

  • Object 143 Prut
  • XM551E4 Hailstorm
  • PTV-51

These tanks were pretty much the same as the last time Overwhelming Fire was available. I find the Heavy tanks too slow for this mode, I never play Arty, although admittedly in this mode, they did look fun and dealt a lot of damage.

I'm glad they brought the mode back. It's fun and quick to play and the rewards are definitely worth the time investment in my opinion. In my last post about Overwhelming Fire, my wish was that Wargaming don't add Auto Cannons into the main game, but I'd welcome the return of the mode, well...

In update 1.26, Auto Cannons will be added to the game 🤣 Wargaming is adding a line of Czechoslovakian Light Tanks, starting at Tier VII although it's not until Tier VIII where the Auto Cannons start, you can read more about them here:

Preview one of the most significant updates of 2024, featuring new light tanks and a wealth of other content

I'm going to do a total 180 here because I'm actually looking forward to trying them out. I've actually been playing a lot of my Škoda T 25 so I have enough experience to get the first tank in the new line, but I may end up spending my Free XP in order to fast track to the VIII tank in the line, so I can play the Auto Cannons.

I'm looking forward to the next round of Overwhelming Fire, I guess now we know that Wargaming were using this mode to see how viable Auto Cannons would be in the game, they must've been popular for them to add a line of Auto Cannons into the main game!
