Unpacking

Unpacking

Well it's been a pretty busy weekend, I started work on a fun new side project, so I put a lot of hours into that, which did mean there wasn't much time for gaming!

That being said, I did make sure to take some time away from my Laptop so I loaded up my Xbox and checked out what was on Game Pass. I stumbled upon a title called Unpacking, and, well, based on the image above, you can probably work out what the game involves!

Unpacking was developed by Witch Beam studios and is a fairly short game, you can probably complete it in 2-3 hours, I was towards the high end of that range. Games of this length are perfect for me as I didn't want to delve into a 50-60 hour AAA title just yet, but I did want to relax and play something that doesn't really require much though, Unpacking fit my needs perfectly!

Unpacking follows the life of a woman throughout her life as she moves to new homes, from a dorm at college/university to a 3 bedroom house with a child. By playing the game, you uncover more of her backstory through photos of each home you end up in. Your task is you simply Unpack items from boxes and place them wherever you see fit.

The graphics were actually quite pleasing and had a sort of pixelated vibe to them. Considering this is just an Indie title and presumably not that big of a team is behind it, I respected the amount of detail that went into each item you pulled out of each box, especially items such as video game consoles and the video games themselves.

The sound was pretty relaxing, no words, just a relaxing tune. It did get slightly repetitive and I'm sure my favourite Indian restaurant uses the same soundtrack 😂 so the game definitely made me hungry.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Like I said, I was looking for a game that didn't require much thought and Unpacking definitely delivered on that front! Would I play it again? Most likely not, there's not much replay value unless I was to just play the game from the start again.
