World of Tanks Winter Raid
Christmas is my favourite time of year on World of Tanks. There's so much going on and so many rewards to get! This year, we were treated to an extra mode called "Winter Raid", which has you team up with 4 other players against 2 other teams of 5 to collect presents and return them to the base. It's basically like a Christmas themed Capture the Flag and it's a lot of fun!
The mode started on December 13th and was split into 3 different chapters with the 3rd one currently running and set to end on January 13th. Each chapter had a map that you could progress through, using coins you earn from either completing missions within the mode or in the random queue. Each tank also had a daily play bonus of 40 coins, so you could get 120 coins each day by just playing 3 games, 1 in each tank. Here are the 3 different maps:
The rewards were not bad at all, and the mode was really fun to play, so it never felt like a chore to try and get the rewards. The rewards were a mix of WoT Premium, Credits, Free XP, bonds and of course, some of the new 3D attachments you can add to your tanks. The one I really wanted to get was the mirror, which you got for completing the 3rd chapter:
The style of the mode was nothing like regular World of Tanks, it was paper themed, which I think worked extremely well considering it's Christmas, also, you had a massive cat watching over the game at all times:
There was 3 different tanks to choose from and each tank had a special ability which you could periodically use throughout the game. For example, one tank was able to go invisible, which made it easy to steal presents from the base of another team. Another tank was able to freeze enemies in place, which made it easy for your team to then kill them if they'd just stolen from your base!
I think the mode could've done with a couple more maps and that's really the only downside, it was the same map for every single game. Some variation would've been nice, even if it was just 3 different maps. Hopefully this is something they think about if they bring this mode back next year, which I really hope they do as it was a lot of fun!
Now I'm going to have to decide which tanks to equip my new 3D attachments on!
